My martial arts journey began as a teenager, obsessed with video games and cheesy action movies starring the likes of Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Steven Segal to name just a few. When I turned 18 I went straight to the nearest kung fu club I could find. I drifted in and out of different styles and systems until eventually moving from the UK to Perth in 2006 where I found WAIMA. The rest as they say is history!
I have gained many things through my journey in martial arts. Sure I have become stronger physically and mentally, of course I have gained in confidence and have the ability to defend myself and my loved ones. What most people don’t realize about long term training is what you gain in life experience, if you keep up with your training you will create memories, experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime. My training and the self-discipline that has come from it has changed my life and given me the power to beat any challenge that I have been faced with.
I challenge everyone in the WAIMA family to spread the word, martial arts is a lifestyle choice. It is not something you do for a school term, it is not something you do until you get your black belt just so you can quit. It is a way to continually challenge yourself and continually grow and improve in all areas of your life.
I can’t wait to see you all grow in the same ways I have, and I’m proud and honoured to be a part of your journeys to black belt and beyond!
