Nutrition for martial arts is as essential as jet fuel is for aircraft. Just like you can’t expect an aeroplane to fly anywhere without it’s fuel, you cannot expect your body to perform at it’s best without the proper nutrition.
The best and easiest way for martial artists to get a boost of nutrition is to maintain a healthy diet through eating lots of fruit.
Which Fruits? Well their are so many to pick from and of course only YOU will know which fruits work best for your body.
But if there’s one fruit that countless sports professionals live by, it’s bananas.
Bananas are ideal for athletes, school children and Martial Artists as they are easy to transport, peel and eat. As bananas are so easy to eat, they are a favourite choice for cyclists, footballers and other athletes looking for a quick source of carbohydrate. A banana is quickly digested and converted to muscle fuel.
The WA Institute of Martial Arts Instructors love to eat bananas before and after training and as a quick snack between classes. Bananas are the ultimate recovery food immediately after sport. Bananas are ideal as a snack as it contains great essential carbohydrates and can provide around 320 mg of potassium, which is about 10% of daily requirements. The potassium can prevent cramps and reduce the recovery time of muscle fatigue.
• Bananas have been around for thousands of years
• They don’t grow on trees. They are grown on giant herbs related to the Lily and Orchid family
• Bananas have twice as much vitamin C as those other dudes apples, pears and grapes
• Bananas have natural fruit sugars which give you fast bursts of energy.
• Bananas are great for ankle biters too because they’re so easily digested.
Want to put it to the test? Eat a banana about 30 minutes before your next martial arts class and see if you feel any different.
