Setting goals allows you to choose how you want to move through life and in martial arts. Some achievements can take, what may seem a lifetime to attain, like your black belt, while others can be completed in a much shorter term, like weight loss.
Goals come in different forms – from short term to long term and everything in between. Your Martial Arts goals might be to get to Black Belt.
On that journey, you might run into many setbacks or even injuries along the way.
Does that mean you reach a point where you give up and quit? Definitely not! This is where goal setting in martial arts is essential.
Reviewing your goals on a daily basis will keep you on the right path to success.
Here are 4 steps to consider when setting goals:
1. Make your Goals Specific and write them down (what is it EXACTLY that you want to achieve?)
2. Measurable (When do you want to achieve this?)
3. Attractive (Something you desire, that you’re passionate about and really want)
4. Realistic (something that pushes your limits, but is still possible).
Setting and meeting goals leads to feelings of satisfaction and accomplishment
If you set realistic goals, be accountable to yourself. Let your friends know what they are. Have a goals buddy to ask you that question, Where are you at with xxxx ? And let them keep you on track.
Here at The WA Institute of Martial Arts we specialize in Goal setting. Ask your Instructor how and be part of our goals team and updates every couple of months. Good luck and achieve you dream.
“I believe in goals. It’s never a bad thing to have a dream. If something is really what you want to do, just do it. Whatever your goal.” – Richard Branson
