According to Cancer Council NSW, brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in young people, and it accounts for more than one-third of cancer deaths in children aged under 10.

In fact, brain cancer takes lives of more children than any other disease in Australia. However, very little is known about this disease, its causes and how to cure it.

And this year, the WA Institute of Martial Arts, along with other sponsors, will raise funds again through the Kickathon event to fight and find a cure for childhood brain cancer. We believe that by working hand-in-hand, we can conquer cancer.

Here is a personal message from Briana Harris:

Hi, this is Briana at the WA Institute of Martial Arts. I wanted to let everybody know about a really cool event that’s happening this May. Kickathon is happening again. For those of you that aren’t sure, this event is where we raise as much money as possible for the Telethon Adventurers. Their mission is to find a cure for children’s brain cancer.

This year, we have lots of different ways you can get involved. The first way is being part of the event yourself. All you need to do for this is to grab yourself a participation form from reception. Go see all your family and friends and see how much they’ll donate towards you doing a certain amount of kicks. You might do 50. You might to 10,000. It’s up to you.

We’ve already got a list of names building up at all of our locations. We want to see your guys’ names on there, as well. If you can’t be involved yourself this year, you can also donate towards an instructor. Get them to do your kicks for you. We’ve got teams at all of our locations. Pick your favorite instructor or the instructor that makes you work hardest in class and get some payback on them. We’ve got some of our instructors who are ready to do 10,000 kicks if they raise $10,000.

Something new that we’ve got this year we’ve never done before, with the support of our different students and local businesses, is Create a Voucher Bag. In this bag, we’ve got over $300 worth of vouchers which you can get from Go Bananas to massages, bowling, electrician services. There’s everything in there for everybody. Grab your $20 voucher pack and support the Kickathon.

Part of that pack is also your bandana. If you want to grab a bandana and just support the team that way, grab one from reception. Put it on and be ready to support Kickathon. We want to see you guys out there kicking on the day.
